Tyler ISD selected one of our current outstanding employees to serve as Principal of John Tyler High School. Mr. Michael Timms, who currently serves as John Tyler High School Associate Principal of Curriculum & Instruction, will take over as principal in July.

Mr. Timms began his career in education 27 years ago when he worked as a substitute teacher in Dallas ISD. Mr. Timms has served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal at several schools across the state. As principal of Turner Middle School, a low performing campus in Waxahachie ISD, Mr. Timms led the campus to earn Texas Education Agency’s Recognized status for the first time in the school’s history.

“As an educator, I believe that we must allow students to chart their own course in life, while we give them the moral and academic compass to guide them on the voyages they must take in order to be successful,” Mr. Timms said. “It is with great responsibility that I accept the challenges of educating our students.”

Mr. Timms began working for Tyler ISD in 2010 as Dean of the Freshman Academy at John Tyler High School, and was later named Associate Principal of Curriculum & Instruction.

“Mr. Timms is an outstanding leader,” Tyler ISD Superintendent Dr. Randy Reid said. “He is committed to upholding John Tyler’s traditions while striving to reach greater educational excellence for all students.”

Earlier this year, Mr. Timms was named the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) State of Texas Assistant Principal of the Year. This award is given to the assistant principal who exhibits exemplary performance and outstanding leadership in secondary education. Mr. Timms was unanimously selected to receive this honor by a committee of eight leading educators in the State of Texas.

For those in the world of education who do know Michael Timms could easily be persuaded by the short bio of his background as supplied by the Tyler Independent School District, but as usual with most administrative bullies there is always a selling process to the shareholders, and the community for when these people resurface in some new capacity.

According to Dr. Reid the Superintendent of Tyler ISD who never spoke with any of the white teachers of Bessie Coleman Middle School of the Cedar Hill School District, such as Beverly Porterfield, Chelsea Womack, Justin Frazier, Janice Westmoreland, Mitzi Shaw, Tinky Gohike, Colin Avant,  Ruth Ford, Angela Kirland, Christie Roberts, Craig Moore, and Traci Hall who would have painted a different picture of Michael Timms, perhaps a picture of Timms that is not so rosy.

Timms took over a middle school in the Cedar Hill School District named Bessie Coleman Middle School in the Spring of 2007 as principal of a school which was listed as a low performing school.

Bessie Coleman Middle School opened in 2005 and acquired low performing status in Social Studies during its very first year which led to the unacceptable status.

Before Timms’ arrival the plan for success for the school was put in place by Interim Principal, and University of North Texas Professor Dr. Georgetta Johnson, Assistant Principal Traci Hall , and the staff which was practically new to the school.

Michael Timms was given the credit for turning around Bessie Coleman Middle School in 2007 despite becoming principal in February 2007.

The school went from unacceptable status to acceptable status with Timms being in charge for only three months, but the truth be told, Timms had absolutely nothing to do with with success or turn around of the school.

In fact, it was Timms’ actions that prevented the school from achieving a much higher status during 2007 by arbitrarily having Assistant Principal Traci Hall moved from campus, while  having a lot of the teachers of the school teach outside their content area in subjects areas that they had never taught before.

While teachers and staff were busy trying to get the students ready to take the Texas mandated exam called the Texas Assessment of Knowledge, and Skills (TAKS), Timms was busy trying to have all the white teachers, along with other white staff members, and their black friends  removed from Bessie Coleman Middle School.

I gained knowledge of such cleansing when Timms would forced me to be present while he evaluated the white staff members of Bessie Coleman Middle School.  Although Timms has been gone from the Cedar Hill School District since 2o10, I can still remember how he would build the teachers up by telling them what great teachers they were, and afterwards Timms would announced that he was not renewing their contracts.

After Timms got rid of 90 percent of the white teachers, he focused in on the staff members that he believed would not go along with his brand of leadership, and I was in that group of individuals.  After Timms tried to have me moved to the Freshman school by telling me that the principal wanted me to move to the high school which later turned out to be a lie,  I started recording Timms on an almost daily basis.

The more I recorded Timms, the more I came to realize that Timms had a dark side, and that dark side led to Timms taken such actions like having the white members of the school removed, lying to staff, getting a fake doctor’s excuse in order to get out of athletic duty, and recording members of administration including  Superintendent Horace Williams, Dr. Homer Carter  Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and Executive Director of Human Resources Shana Nix. (audio 1)

Timms was the type of Principal who came to work early, but spent most of his time pawning his duties off on everyone else especially me. Under Timms’ leadership I was the counselor, assistant principal, and Instructional Coordinator. Timms simply set in his office on a daily basis played music on his computer, and recorded individuals as they entered into his office.

In 2008 I notified H.R Director Nix about how Timms was recording individuals especially members from central office, but she failed to take action to stop the behavior.  Director Shana Nix did not address the issue of Timms recording staff members until 2010, and that was due to the fact that Timms had discovered that I had been recorded him, and he took actions against me in the form of creating a hostile work environment.

He often left work early often using the excuse that he had to pick up his kids form daycare, and on several occasions, he would leave the state and leave me in charge of the entire building.

Timms would often tell me to be hard on the Department Heads by holding them accountable while acting in the role of Assistant Principal, but he would secretly conduct meetings with the same Department Heads behind my back and thus pitting us against each other.

In his second year as Principal of Bessie Coleman Timms applied for the position of Principal of the Cedar Hill High School, but when he was not granted an interview for the position, he became angry towards the Cedar Hill School District.

In an effort to get back at the Cedar Hill School District, in the fall of 2009 Timms placed a call to the athletic department of the Plano ISD and reported that the Cedar Hill ISD had played an ineligible player against South Lake Carroll High School  during the school’s football playoff run.

I was present, and witnessed Timms making the called for which I recorded him detailing how such a call was made. (audio 2) He can be heard saying that he used his cell phone to make the call to Plano ISD.  I later shared a copy of the audio with Athletic Director Gina Farmer, for which I truly believed was the reason behind Timms’ ouster, and not due to family issues as stated by the Cedar Hill School District.

Micheal Timms should never be trusted to evaluate any school personnel’s job performance after I reported to Cedar Hill Director of Operations Mr. Kim Lewis that Timms was manipulating the teachers’s evaluations by forcing me to tell a teacher that he would give her a bad evaluation if she did not change a grade for a student.  Timms also forced a man teacher named Avant to change some 80 grades after students failed test that was given by the teacher.

Timms a year later was recorded bragging about how he had made the white teacher change the grades with Assistant Principal Helen Johnson in an effort to justify having the white teachers removed from the school.

Timms was also recorded saying that he non-renewed a teacher named Bagley for filing a grievance against him, and he threaten to non-renew the choir teacher Nathan Benavidez for reporting him to his supervisor.

Timms  spent the last two years of his employment with the Cedar Hill School District in a war against  Dr. Homer Carter his supervisor, and Superintendent Horace Williams for which he filed a grievance against for retaliation.

Timms was recorded instructing me to tell the teachers to re-bell against a Assistant Principal named Phyllis Phillips appointed by Superintendent Horace William. Timms felt that Phillips’ was assigned to his school by Carter, and Williams to spy on him, and therefore he took measures to ensure that she would not succeed.

Timms, had little respect for his staff including the Superintendent Horace Williams, and his supervisor Dr. Homer Carter where he was recorded in a thirty minute conference with a member of the community referring to Williams, and Carter as two Pimps from Houston.

He  often referred to female members in the building, and other district employees as motherfuckers, Bitches, and made sexual comment about several members of the district, and as the son of a preacher Timms’ every day language was often filled with profanity mostly directed towards Superintendent Horace Williams, Homer Carter his supervisor, and Cedar Hill Board Members.

Timms later placed a letter into the personal school mail boxes of the staff of Bessie Coleman Middle School about Superintendent Horace Williams, and was recorded reading from the letter with regards to the Superintendent Horace Williams’ reputation.

Timms found out that I had been recording my meetings with him, and he began a yearlong brand of retaliation against me with the help of members of Cedar Hill School District’s Cedar office including Nix, Carter, and Superintendent Horace Williams.

True to his word, Timms non-renewed my contract while under investigation by the school district after I filed a grievance against him. Timm’s action was condone by school officials Shana Nix, Homer Carter, and Superintendent Horace Williams despite telling members of the Cedar Hill School Board that Principal Timms never evaluated my job performance.

Timms was allowed to resign while being investigated for making threats of violence in the work place, changing grades, calling a rival school district and reporting Cedar Hill Athletics for possible cheating in football, and recording members of the Cedar School District including the Superintendent, Director Curriculum and Instructions, along with the Executive Director of Human Resources Shana Nix.

The information including audio that was used to force Timms to resign from the Cedar Hill School District  was supplied by me during a level II hearing, but like most school districts the Cedar Hill School District allowed the Administrative Bully to parachute into safety zone such as another school district without ever having to give account for their actions.

On the way out Timms was allowed to non-renew my contract although my contract was not up for renewal until a year later, so in other words the Cedar Hill School District allowed Timms to retaliate against me for recording his actions.

Timms announcement as Principal of John Tyler High School should serve as an eye opener, and as a warning for the white teachers, staff, and the Athletic Department of the John Tyler High School that before opening day 2012 they might want to start looking for another place to work.

It should also serve notice to Dr. Randy Reid the Superintendent of the Tyler ISD, and the Board of Trustees that the selection of Michael Timms as Principal of John Tyler High School should be rescinded until a proper vetting process can take place, because there is more to Michael Timms than just being the son of a preacher.

If Michael Timms is allowed to evaluate one teacher based on his reputation of evaluation fraud then lawsuits will soon follow because the man has no credibility with regards to staff evaluations.

After Timms resigned in April 2010 from the Cedar Hill School district all Cedar Hill ISD staff were given second evaluations based on the evidence I supplied to district officials.

I wrote this article to send a message to Administrative bullies like Michael Timms that no longer will you be allowed to ruin someone else’s career, and simply walk away without being held accountable for your actions.

This article is grounded in facts, and not opinions, and I am willing to share the fact of this article with any member of the Tyler ISD including School Board members,  as well as the community should the district decide to investigate farther.

Evidence to support this claim along with audio will be supplied with this article

Timms resigned from Cedar Hill ISD under investigation, and as Principal of Turner Middle School he had 13 teachers to leave, and a greivance was filed against him on a large scale by the teachers of Turner Middle School. Tyler ISD is making a great mis-stake in hiring Michael Timms, as Principal.

Never before heard audio of Tyler ISD Principal and Administrative Bully Michael Timms will be release July 27/2012 including evidence that Timms changed a teacher’s evaluation in order to retailate against her.

Michael Tims committed all sorts of policy violation while working in the position of Principal of Bessie Coleman Middle School in Cedar Hill ISD.

I recorder Tims for all most 3 years as he abused his authority by having mostly the white teachers removed from the school. I started to record Tims because he had me present when terminated teachers because of their race, and I knew he was violating their rights with regards to due process.

Tims followed his actions up by recording members of central office as they entered his office, and that information was shared by me with Director of Human Resources Shana Nix who did nothing to stop the practice.

Tims bragged about having teachers who filed a grievances against him placed on a growth plan for which he used to end their careers.

He made threats of violence against co-workers including members of the Cedar Hill High School, and Central office. He constantly used profanity towards female members of the staff as well as the superintendent Horace Williams.

Tims discovered that I had the recording of him, and he non-renewed my contract with the help of Nix, Homer Carter, Superintendent Horace Williams and others including Director of School Operations Mr Kim Lewis, and members of the Cedar Hill School Board.

The Cedar Hill ISD felt it was more important to get rid of me for recording Tim’s bad behavior then to take actions against him, therefore Cedar Hill ISD allowed Tims to resigned despite being under investigation for various policy violation, and the Cedar Hill ISD allowed the non-renewal of my contract to stand.

Today administrative Michael Tims was placed on Administrative leave from the Tyler ISD, with more news to come.

  4. This guy should never have been hired by the school district, there was too much information out there indicating he had major character flawes, but the board ignored all the signs and hired Timms for the position of Principal.

  5. WOW says:

Dr. Randy Reid the Superintendent of the Tyler ISD reviewed my resume, credentials and after a very positive interview, shook my hand and stated I would definitely be hearing from Tyler and he would love to have me as a teacher. I never heard from them and after listening to these tapes, I understand why. It is apparent that they have a culture of not wanting white cracker redneck dumb mf’rs and choose to perpetuate a racists, hate filled environment. No one the special ed teacher got stabbed out of the blue. So glad they did not call and am shocked by the belligerent talk behind closed doors, but not surprised.

Before Michael Timms was hired, I tried to meet with Tyler ISD School Officers including members of the Board regarding the character of Micheal Timms, and they refused.

I tried to meet with these individuals before posting the audio of Timms’ behavior, but no one would meet with me, therefore I was forced to share with the world why I believed Michael Timms should have never been appointed Principal of Tyler High School.

Timms had a long history of abuse of staff that went back to his days as Principal of Turner Middle School in Waxachie,Texas where grievances were filed against him by members of his staff.

Timms spent most of his time at Bessie Coleman Middle School just sitting in his office and pitting has staff against each other, and recording members of Cedar Hill ISD Central Office who he felt had issues with him as a Principal. When he wasn’t doing that, he was sneaking out of work early around 2:30 going fishing.

He abused his position as Principal and Cedar Hill ISD allowed him to non-renew my contract because I had recordings of Timms, and others committing policy violations.

He is an excellent speaker, but behind the words there is no substance, and if he recieved any awards for academic achievement it was probably someone elses’ work that he passed off as his, and got recognition for the work done by other members of his staff.

  6. When will we find out why Timms was placed on leave, the community is entitled to know something? I have listened to the audios placed on this blog, and I am really concerned, perhaps we really never knew the real Michael Timms.
